TRINITY EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH

The Committee has met with the architects four times since the second congregational survey:

  1. to review the results of the second survey and the focus group meetings.  We then were led by the architects in a "brainstorming" session to generate design ideas that responded to what the congregation has identified as the primary issues for the building.
  2. to review the architects' summary of their process of extracting from all the information provided to them by the congregation, titled "Ten Top Master Plan Concepts" (see below).  These are the ten issues that received the most interest and concern from the congregation.  These ten issues focus on the following points:
  3. to refurbish and increase accessibility in the sanctuary and nave (lighting, sound system, paint, floor finishes, pews)
  4. upgrade and increase accessibility in the office, education and bathroom  spaces
  5. increase accessibility through out the complex, including an elevator
  6. a new narthex space for meeting and greeting
  7. improve/increase car parking and entry into the church
  8. determine a long-range plan for Clara's Corner

The architects have now interviewed all staff and lay members in charge of activities that use the church building in order to find out what is needed in specific for each of their activities.  This has resulted in a "program" for the project: a list of specific spaces and actions that need to be designed for. In addition, the architects are now generating initial designs on paper that address these issues.

During August, the architects will continue to meet with the committee to present the building program and the initial design ideas for its review and comments. From here, the architects will prepare a series of Master Plans that can address these building issues (just how such spaces can be placed on our property). A range of budget and space options will be included in these master plans so that the congregation will have a number of alternatives to discuss and consider.

We intend to schedule a series of informational sessions with the architects for all congregational members in late August and early September.

TOP TEN MASTER PLAN CONCEPTS

Following are he top ten master plan concepts based on research with the congregation and brainstorming activities with the Trinity Planning Committee. These concepts received relatively higher scores due to their ability to address Critical Success Factors identified by the congregation. These Master Plan concepts will be a focus area as our architects and Trinity Planning Committee develop a long-range facilities master plan for the church. Please review the concepts below and their related Critical Success Factors.

In addition, during our research and concept development process, tow important ideas surfaced that will operate in concert with many of the Master Plan Concepts listed below and may be viewed as additional project goals. They are as follows:

  1. Improve Trinity Lutheran Church (physical) visibility within the neighborhood
  2. Examination of the long-term options and adequacy (type/number, etc.) of space for Clara's Corner clientele and the efficient maintenance of the facilities provided.
Ranking Master Plan Concepts
  1. Effective, flexible, dedicated space for various activities (incl. worship)
  2. Common space allows for multiple activities simultaneously
  3. Educational facilities/spaces that are relationship focused (God, Peer, and Mentor)
  4. Easily identifiable and accessible entrances(s) with separated parking/drop off areas/directional signage, new elevator for convenient access to all levels
  5. Larger surge areas/clear circulation patterns through out/signage/space recognition
  6. Age specific furnishings, fixtures and equipment/scale
