Work started on our new Narthex & Office addition in early June,
2007, and the project completed in the fall of 2008. A
final slideshow featuring the dedication service and reception
will be the final posting to this page.
Check the links below for slideshows of the varying stages
of progress. |
November 23, 2008 -
We dedicate our new space following a combined worship
service featuring a musical prelude,
a baptism, new member installation, and then we gather
for a reception in the new space. Other developments
include delivery of all furniture in the social space
and office, and the installation of new lighting in the original
narthex. The office will be moving in the coming months.
Initial plantings for landscaping will be placed before
the end of the year.
July -
August - September -
Finishing touches to the project were completed during
the summer months. In late August, a punch list was
generated by reviewing the detailed work that had been done.
Century completed the punch list items, and in
mid September, the addition was signed over to us. This
means the project work by Century is essentially complete.
There are a couple open items - new lighting in the old narthex
and a bit of painting there, and a few other minor adjustments.
However, from this time forward, the addition is open to our
use. Initially this will be on Sunday mornings, or for
funeral visitations and wedding gathering / reception lines.
We will also be opening the space up for general use by the
community and Trinity groups, according to some general policies
that we are in the process of completing. Requests will be
evaluated on a case by case basis. We also have several
other items to be completed in the next several weeks/months:
landscaping, furniture delivery and setup, prayer garden
landscaping and paver installation, the office move to the new
space, and the official dedication / open house (tentatively
scheduled for Sunday November 2). The Building
Leadership team will continue in an oversight capacity until all
open tasks have been completed.
June
2008 -
Much progress! Inside the addition, drywall is
up, windows are in, walls are painted, ceiling tiles are in, the
elevator is being assembled, and all interior finishing work is
ongoing. Outside, the land is being graded, power for the
new sign is going in, and the alley and driveway is being worked
on. We are weeks away from completion! As this work
continues, we have teams of folks looking at furnishings for the
new office and greeting space, policies for how we will use the
new finished space, and landscaping. We continue to seek
funds for the celebration that will be planned after work is
complete, and a team is working on plans for that celebration.
More information to follow!
April
2008 -
Brick work is complete, roofing is in process, and
interior work has begun. The design team is investigating
costs for furnishing the new space and for landscaping the
prayer garden. Check the latest photo slideshow for an
inside view!!
March 2008
-
Although delayed by snow and rain,
the exterior is taking shape.
The brick is being put on and other interior work is continuing.
Once the brick work is complete, the roof will be put on.
When the roof is on, weather delays will be minimized.
Nearly all of the interior design choices have been finalized.
February 8, 2008 - Work is progressing as steel framing is put
up and you can see walls with locations where windows will be.
The structure is definitely taking shape.
January 7,
2008 - The crane returned with the steel framework for the walls
of the addition. The grading in front of the addition has
been started, and the prayer garden has been filled in to make
it level with the addition floor. The latest photos are
below.
November 19
2007 - A crane arrived, steel arrived, and workers began
connecting the steel to the existing foundation and welding the
steel in place. Latest photos are shown below.
November 2007 - The Architect, Contractor and members of the
Leadership group met in early November to iron out differences
and to work out a new planned schedule. There will be
regular communication among all parties so we can keep the
project moving. Structural steel is to be delivered the
first week of November, with major construction tasks beginning
the second week of November. Weather may cause delays at
this point, and further fine-tuning of the plans may be needed.
Look for new slideshows once the next construction steps begin.
September 2007 - Foundation is poured, connecting openings to
the existing building are cut, elevator shaft is going up, base
is being leveled, progress continues! Check out the
slideshows!!
August 2007
The former Clara’s Corner lot is now a huge pile of dirt, the big dig
is completed and the footers have been poured! After this quick
start, the project stalled in the past weeks because the
drawings completed by the architect and those done by the
structural engineer have some discrepancy. Before the contractor
will proceed with pouring the foundation this must be
rectified. It is anticipated this will be done quickly and
construction will resume. The project is still slated to be
completed by the end of October as delays of this nature are not
unexpected. A decision has been made to complete the prayer
garden at this time with the money for this coming from some of
the funds bequeathed to Trinity by Ruth Hust. Thanks to her
generosity we will have a quiet place to pray and reflect. It is
not too soon to begin thinking about how we will put our new
narthex to use. Also, we will eventually complete the new
church offices in the addition. This will free up the space
where the office is now located. Gary Fredensborg is putting
together a working group to plan for space usage (both our new
space and that which now exists.) If you would like to serve on
this group, please let Gary know of your interest. Here is a
quick update on the finances of the project. The approximate
cost is $850,000. The congregation has generously pledged
$650,000 through the three-year capital campaign. As of the end
of June, 2007 members have contributed $340,000. Please
continue to make your contributions as you are prayerfully able.

PROJECT BEGINNINGS:
June 25 2007 - Excavation of the foundation
has begun. They uncovered two old cisterns and some of the foundation
from an old church building. Cement will be poured in early July.
Permits are expected from Mt. Healthy zoning within days, and work on the
building will start once the foundation is ready. The design team has
reviewed elevator designs and considered carpeting styles.
June 2007 - The builder (Century
Construction) and key members of the building Leadership group met
on site to discuss the planned work. The builder expects to begin
the foundation work on June 11. The remaining 33 drawings will be
completed and submitted for zoning approval soon. A separate
contract has been signed and workers have been directed to begin the
final leveling of the Clara's corner property prior as soon as
possible.J
May 2007 - The foundation plans have been
completed and Mt. Healthy is reviewing them so construction of foundation
can begin. Drawings on the building are still being fine tuned and
prepared for final approval. There are over 20 drawings involved.
March 2007 - We are finalizing a contract
with Century Construction. The Design team continues to meet to work
out various details. A groundbreaking is planned for April 1.
-----
----- ------ ------2006 ---- ----- ----- -----
October
- The leadership group, builder, and architect met to discuss the next
steps. A letter of intent was signed so initial steps could be taken
until the formal contract could be reviewed and approved. At this
point the builder is proceeding with preliminary work as we wait for the
final contract approval. September 10
- The congregation met and voted on the plans. The vote was 57 to
10 (& 2 abstensions) in favor of building the addition as described
in the August revised plans presented at the meeting.
August - The architect has completed a revised design and a builder
has provided estimated costs. We have announced a congregational
meeting for September 10th following the 11:15 am service. Please
plan to attend this important meeting! July - The architect is
reviewing the design to determine how to reduce costs and still
provide a building that meets our needs. The design team is working
in tandem with the architect for the next few weeks until they cao
offer a recommendation to the Building project leadership team..
May 21 - The congregation met to review estimated costs that have
been established for the project. Costs are more than 50% higher
than expected, so the design team will review all costs and plans to
determine how to meet our budget. This process will take 6 to 8
weeks.
March 21 - The leadership team met to consider how to proceed with
our project in light of Tim's departure in April. We agreed to
continue with design and cost estimates, then to present this to the
congregation for approval in May. March 6 - The design team is
currently studying three alternative plans to determine which will
best meet our needs within our budget. Meetings are planned for
March 7th and 21st. The Leadership team will also meet on the 21st
to evaluate overall progress. February 15 - With the help of
architect Bryon Southerly, in recent weeks the Steering Committee
has focused on developing a set of conceptual plans for the
addition. These plans provide us a basic look at how the space will
be arranged. The plans are by no means complete at this time, but
the main elements include new office space, open space for gathering
before/after worship or other events, an interior garden area, new,
handicapped accessible restrooms, and an elevator to provide easier
access to the lower level. The lower level of the addition will be
unfinished.
January 2006 -A
Steering Team has been formed to manage the process of design and
oversight of the new Narthex/Office Addition. The committee is being
led by John Wendt and meets the first Tuesday of each month. Team
members are: Terri Bax, Jerry Larson, Carl Greber, Gary Fredensborg,
Dave Miller, and Nancy Tolford-Peeno. Also, three sub-committees
have been formed for design, building, and financing: |
